Cleaning Rules, 2022
"The first ever Czech play that reflects the current war in Ukraine." Jan H. Vitvar, Respekt Three speakers. Fluid female characters tell the story of the unwritten rules of care that have shaped gender for centuries. Superheroines of cleaning, Eurydice waiting in the shadow realm while the future loads, zero waste moms who buy emotion and quality time for their children. Czech women are pendlers while Ukrainian women are migrants. Some dirt is cleaned with water, some gets dry cleaned, some is cleaned daily and some just can't be cleaned. Society, like cleaning, has its rules. And then comes the war. And the dust settles again on the clean quiet objects. And the dust turns to dust and talks at night about the last layer of the Earth being perfectly human-free. An original production about domestic work, undeclared work, care work and long-distance parenting based on documentary interviews with women working in the Czech Republic in the lowest paid professions. Ideally without a contract. Of course.
